In The Squeeze

There isn't too much news from your dairy colleagues at CSU this month. They are caught between the squeeze of preparing for classes as students arrive and the new academic year begins or savoring the last moments of summer. We hope you are also enjoying the last days of summer for that fall freeze and unexpected snow storm are right around the corner.

Don't forget to get your tickets for Ag Day September 6th.

Hope to see you there!

The Green University

In July, President Penley announced the push for Colorado State University to become known as The Green University.  There has been much media hype about this initiative without much substance. To read more about the University's real resolve, please go to:

Dairy Summit: Dealing with Global Climate Change

This summer The International Dairy Federation had its First Dairy Summit focused on the subject of climate change. Several hundred producers, government officials and journalists from 40 countries gathered in Edinburg, Scotland to discuss climate change and its affect on dairy related industries as well as the dairy industry's responsibility if any in this issue.

Paul Wolcott, a New York State dairy producer milking 900 cows attended the meeting. He concluded after the 3 day conference, "As a hands on dairy producer it is easy to get so wrapped up in our business that I fail to think about the big picture.  When I first saw the program agenda for the summit I became excited.  I said to myself, these are some issues I'd like to hear some expert advice on.  I had some very high expectations of this summit; I'll tell you today I have not been disappointed."
