Shannon Archibeque-Engle was born and raised in Cortez, Colorado. As a child, she spent her summers building fences, irrigating fields, and putting up hay. As a high school student, she had the opportunity to be involved with Science Motivation Program.  This was a 6 week program that introduced minority students to CSU and scientific research. That was the beginning of her lifetime connection to Colorado State.  She earned a B.S. in Environmental Health in 1994 and a M.S. in Toxicology in 1996. She spent 3.5 years in North Carolina as a toxicology lab manager. Her research interests revolved around pesticides and endocrine disruption, especially as it relates to cancer and teratogenicity. In 1999, her and her husband moved back to Fort Collins and she chose to stay home to raise their children.  She decided to add to her "at home" duties in 2000 and bought a Jazzercise franchise, which she owned until 2005. Shannon joined the Department of Animal Sciences in March 2005 as an academic advisor. She has a husband and two children, Jonathan and Jerica.
