Wool Judging Team Print E-mail

The Colorado State University Wool Judging Team strives to enable individuals, especially Freshmen, to become involved with the nationally competitive judging programs within the CSU Animal Science Department.  This opportunity allows students to meet people with similar backgrounds and interests as well as diverse aspirations and goals.  Intercollegiate contests consist of 6 placing classes of 4 fleeces, analyzing 15 fleeces for production traits critical to value, and 2 sets of oral reasons on previously judged classes.  Past team members have thoroughly enjoyed their judging experiences, and will be assisting with coaching responsibilities to stay involved with the program.

National Western Stock Show:
The 2006 Colorado State University Wool Judging Team had a dominating performance at the 100th Anniversary National Western Stock Show.  The CSU Team was crowned National Western Champion Wool Team in convincing fashion.  Colorado State University claimed High Team in Reasons, Wool Grading, Handspinning, and Overall.  Corey Longhurst, of Brighton, CO, was awarded high individual in reasons and overall in the contest; and Dominic DiSanti, of Pueblo, CO, earned 5th place individual honors.  Team members also included Lindsay Eurich, Keenesburg, CO; Jerilyn Hergenreder, Longmont, CO; Cole Bershinsky, Hartshorne, OK; MacKensey Priest, Burley, ID; and J.W. Wood, Paauilo, Hawaii.  This is the first National Western championship for CSU in over 25 years.  The team is coached by Travis Hoffman.  This is the third consecutive national contest that a member of the CSU Wool Team has earned high individual in reasons.

Houston Livestock Show
Colorado State University Wool Judging Team returned from the 2006 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo with several team and individual honors.  CSU won high team overall in placings, with three individuals marking a perfect 300 score.  The CSU Team also excelled the competition to won high team in reasons with an average of 47 in the reasons room.  Dominic DiSanti placed 4th; Corey Longhurst placed 5th; Jerilyn Hergenreder placed 7th; and Lindsay Eurich placed 11th as the team easily won Total Judging.  The 2006 team completes the year undefeated in Reasons & Total Judging at both contests.  The team also placed 6th in Grading and 5th Overall.  Jerilyn Hergenreder received 7th in Grading and 5th place Overall and J.W. Wood claimed 15th in Grading.  The 2006 CSU Wool Team is coached by Travis Hoffman.
