Dr. David B. Anderson is retired from Elanco Animal Health Research and Development and is currently an Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Animal Sciences.  His research career at Elanco focused on the discovery and development of products to improve the efficiency of livestock production, with specific emphasis on the physiology and metabolism of swine.  His research in swine efficiency and carcass leanness includes beta adrenergic agonists, estrogen/androgens, somatotropin, GHRH analogs, and nutritional effects.  He was involved in the discovery and development of ractopamine, now marketed for use in swine and beef cattle.

Raised on a livestock and grain farm near Hector, Minnesota, Dr. Anderson earned a BS in Animal Science from South Dakota State University in 1966 and MS (1968) and Ph.D. (1971) from the University of Wisconsin.   Following 4 years as an army pilot, he was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois prior to joining Elanco.  He has served on the boards of the American Society of Animal Sciences and the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology and served on the board and as president of the American Meat Science Association. Awards include the Animal Growth and Development Award (2001),  and Fellow Award (2004) from ASAS and the Signal Service Award (1997) and R.C. Pollack Award (2007) from AMSA.

Dave and his wife Carol, a speech therapist, live in Loveland, Colorado.  They have two married daughters: Jacquelyn of Oakland, CA and Kristin of Portland, OR.
