One month into the semester and things are really moving. We had a great turn out at Ag Day and our students have made it through their first round of exams. Our enrollment is higher again this semester with 174 freshman and 770 total undergraduate students. The new class created a buzz through its size but also by how active they are in class, student clubs and many other activities. We are trying to keep up. We have some great opportunities to connect with our alumni and friends throughout the state but first we would like to recognize our students and showcase the department.
The Colorado State University Livestock Judging Team Competed at the Pannell Ranch on Friday the 14th. The senior team walked away with a beautiful sketch, by world renowned artist Bob Coronato, of Devils Tower valued at over $600 for being High Team Overall in the contest. 2007 team members include Devin Murnin (High Individual Overall), Cory Pendley (3rd High Individual), Nia Elliott (Fifth High Individual), Jason Johnson (6th High Individual), Katie Johnson, and Tess Norvell.
Ag Adventure, a program organized by College of Agricultural Sciences students to teach children about agriculture, will double its regular attendance for the annual elementary extravaganza from previous years to approximately 2,000 students. For two days, 72 third grade classes from the Fort Collins area will participate in a field trip to Colorado State University's research and teaching farm, ARDEC. Each student club and organization hosts an educational booth offering hands on learning opportunities for the onlookers. Successful Events:
Colorado Nutrition Roundtable – Thursday, September 27 at the Taylor Conference Center at ARDEC. The Roundtable was a huge success with discussions on the recent surge of interest in supplying “Natural Beef” to consumers, producers weighing the potential premiums against the requirements of production and potentially reduced performance and firing questions at the renowned speakers during the bull-pen. Thank you to all who participated. For the full schedule go to the Animal Sciences Website or click Roundtable.

The LNW Stock Show, modeled after the National Western Stock Show, has been a tradition at Colorado State University since 1934. LNW is an excellent opportunity for students to learn new skills and perfect old talents by preparing either a beef heifer, dairy heifer, lamb, or hog for the show ring. We would appreciate your attendance and support in any way of this piece of continued history. This year will also include a Faculty and Staff Round Robin Show held following the LNW Round Robin on show day. For more information contact Lucy Whitehead –
