Colorado Hits a Trifecta in Meat Judging |

Colorado has achieved what most states only dream of: winning every major national meat judging event during the past year of competition.
First, the state 4-H Meat Judging Team (Larimer County) won the National 4-H Meat Judging Contest in Kansas City, MO in mid-November. This was followed closely by the Colorado State University Intercollegiate Team winning the International Contest in Dakota City, NE at the end of November.
And finally in January, Colorado hit the trifecta: the Reserve State 4-H Meat Judging Team (Douglas County) won the National Western Stock Show 4-H Roundup Contest hosted by CSU.
“Winning this trifecta is virtually unheard of, even for states like Texas that are much larger and field many more teams”, says Keith Belk, professor in the Department of Animal Sciences. “I personally believe that the students and coaches comprising these three Colorado teams deserve significant recognition for achieving something that is virtually impossible”.
Congratulations to all the competing teams. Your continued success reflects an extremely optimistic forecast for the livestock industry in Colorado, and is evidence that Colorado State remains the best at producing world-class talent.
