Horse and Barn Foreman - Jackson Fork Ranch, Wyoming Print E-mail

JacksonFork.jpgThe Jackson Fork Ranch is located in the Hoback Valley in Sublette County, Wyoming, about an hour southeast of Jackson Hole.  The Ranch is home to a large bison herd and a guest lodge that offers world-class fly-fishing along with a host of other summer and winter activities in the shadow of the scenic Wyoming and Gros Ventre mountain ranges.

The Horse and Barn Foreman (male/female) will be responsible for managing the total daily operation for the care of horses and related facilities at the Jackson Fork Ranch.  This will include managing the feed, supplies, scheduling the vet and farrier, record keeping, and related administrative duties.  In addition, the foreman will be frequently expected to handle routine health maintenance (immunizations, deworming, etc.) and handle medications and injury care under the supervision of the veterinarian.  Client relations and sales may also be part of the responsibilities.  A list of duties is as follows but not limited to:

•    Breeding (Naturally & Artificially, Ultra Sound)
•    Raising (Foals to Mature Adults)
•    Showing (Individual Halter, Group Classes, Hitch Classes)
•    Training/Breaking Horses (On Ranch or Off Ranch)
•    Feeding (Ordering Feed and Supplies)
•    Grooming (Farrier)
•    Vaccinating (Scheduling Vaccinations and Vet Care)
•    Cleaning (Stalls, Barn, Alley Ways, Equipment)
•    Administration (Registration, Transfers, Record Keeping, Budgeting)
•    Delegation (Once Established Delegate Previous Duties To Employees)
•    Training future employees
•    Budgets
•    Ordering supplies and equipment (Halters, Harness, Wagons, Bedding, etc)
•    Maintenance an upkeep of barn exterior and interior
•    Range management
•    Inventory maintenance
•    Miscellaneous duties as needed (fencing, snow removal, fuel orders, etc.)

This position requires extensive skills in agriculture, management, horsemanship, genetics, and nutrition.  Experience working with draft horses a plus, particularly experience with Percherons.  Based on the candidate’s performance, the successful candidate will be eligible to assume general manager responsibilities and will direct the work of others as the operations and staffing of the Ranch develops.  Office facilities are located in a segregated space in the barn.  A BA in either Agriculture or Equine or a minimum of 5+ years experience is required.
