History

The CSU Versatility Ranch Horse Club is one of the newest clubs to be formed here at CSU, so there isn’t a whole lot of history to be told.  The National Versatility Ranch Horse Association was recently founded in 2007.  The VRH club started in the fall semester of 2007 with the help of Bobbie Skelton, the club Advisor.  The purpose of the VRH club is to bring together students with a common interest in the Ranch Horse Industry and Ranch Horse Competition.

Last year the VRH members were able to get together once every two weeks on Monday nights at 6pm to have club meetings. In addition, during the spring semester we were able to meet on a weekly basis to ride and practice the different aspects involved with versatility ranch horse.  Members do need to own a horse to participate in practices and competitions, but do not have to own a horse to become a member.  If you do not own a horse, you are still encouraged to join and come to the bimonthly meetings and practices, and participate and learn right along side those who have a horse.

This club's primary goal is, of course to have fun, but also to educate its members on the six different skills that the NVRHA focuses on, which are ranch work – ranch riding, trail, roping, cutting, reining and confirmation.  The NVRHA judges these different skills in five different events: ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch cutting, working ranch and ranch confirmation.  However, with the VRH club collegiate level events the ranch confirmation will not be judged.
